Yakushima Karin Snack Studio operates as a cozy café with a strong focus on desserts and food manufacturing supply, nestled in the lush surroundings of Yakushima. This spot leans heavily into local ingredients, with much of its menu showcasing fruits and produce grown right on the island. Visitors will find themselves drawn to a casual, inviting atmosphere where the essence of Yakushima’s natural bounty is the star.

Breakfast or a midday break here means enjoying thoughtfully crafted offerings like fruit butter toast featuring local flavors such as guava, passion fruit, and tankan oranges, alongside fresh smoothies made with island-grown mangoes, dragon fruit, and bananas. The presence of dairy-based smoothies suggests a richer, creamy texture, distinguishing these drinks from typical fruit juices and making them particularly refreshing on warm days.

This café suits travelers seeking a taste of Yakushima beyond just traditional meals—those interested in lighter, health-conscious choices will appreciate options like the gratin set or the vegetable soup with mini salad, appealing to both vegetarians and those curious about local produce. The small selection of baked goods doubles as bite-sized souvenirs, providing something uniquely local to bring home.

People tend to visit for relaxed mornings or restful afternoons, especially since options on the island can be limited. The café’s location offers views of the surrounding mountains, adding a quietly scenic backdrop for sipping a smoothie or nibbling on their fresh toast. Because Yakushima Karin also supplies local food products, regulars might stop by not just for a quick bite but to pick up jams and spreads made on-site, deepening the connection to the island’s flavors.

Overall, this café holds a calm, unpretentious vibe that suits solo travelers, couples, and small groups looking for a slow-paced spot to sample Yakushima’s island-grown fruits in fresh and creative forms. Visiting during the quieter parts of the day helps avoid crowds, allowing you to settle in with a view and a satisfying, simple meal.

I love this little cafe and shop! We had breakfast here one day last week (last week of March 2025). All of the food is locally sourced/grown and everything is produced by them, including the jams if you get the toast set. I am vegetarian, and there were a lot of options for me.

Amazing food. Very good price. We tried the orange smoothie (tankan) and I gotta say it is one of the most freshest juice I’ve ever tasted! We also tried that toast with local fruit butters! And to top it off, you get a good view of the mountains YOU MUST COME HERE!

I got a gratin set and orange smoothie. This is like the top three meals I've had so far in Japan. The gratin set was delicious. I'm tempted to order it again.

We visited this place twice (because there's really nothing open in Yakushima ). Lots of baked goods, snacks, spreads that you can buy as gifts. They had delicious smoothies as well, although technically more of a milkshake since they add yogurt and milk to it. When we were there during Golden Week, they also had cheesecake specials that you could just have a slice of at the shop. We tried passion fruit and purple potato, both quite light and easy to eat. Recommend to stop by if you can!

We drove past this place when we were heading down south of the island to see all the beautiful waterfalls the island has to offer. We instantly know we made the right decision the moment we stepped into the cafe and bakery, the assortment of gifts and souvenirs were amazing, they carry quite a few of souvenirs from other craftsman within Yakushima. The highlight though is the food for us, they carry their homemade fruit butter which was just exquisite!! What’s more you can try out their toast set at Jpy500+ it comes in all 3 flavored butter with bits of the fruits goodness in it. Guava, Mandarin & Passionftuit, the mandarin was my fav and I ended up with half a dozen bottles back home as gifts. The toast set also comes with a mini yogurt with their home made granola again with bits and pieces of goodness in it. I also ordered their potage which is soup, have a choice of turnip, pumpkin and cabbage and look like it changes according to seasons too. The cakes look really great too, my first time to see cakes that have vegetables bits in it, gave me a lot of ideas how to bake some back home. The gratin was a popular option among other diners too. The tankan juice (locally harvested mandarin) was just spot on, frozen cubes of juices that avoid diluting any flavour. If you are looking for other editable souvenirs, they have fruit syrups and nicely packed jams to bring home so do check this place out, it is really lovely!!

Came upon this place by accident but I enjoyed it so much, I brought my weary hikers back for ‘brunch’ the next day. The menu isn’t huge - four or five delicious smoothie options, a few light meals - but what we chose was in every case devoured with enthusiasm. Particularly worth commending are the gratin set, which is macaroni cheese with bacon and veg - total comfort food, plus a tiny dish of carrot salad that tasted better than any carrot salad I’ve ever eaten - and the toast with fruit butter, which is thick fingers of brioche spread with three different sorts of fruit curd - so good we ordered a second helping. Lovely coffee, friendly staff, just perfect when what you want is a rest and some tasty grub. The place also offers a selection of souvenirs and a beautiful view of the mountains.

This place has a delightful interior with plenty of natural wood and natural daylight. The window seats offer a fabulous mountain view. The smoothies we drank were delicious. There are many choices on the menu. This place is located within walking distance of a bus stop and so is accessible to those that have not rented a motor-car. Very much worth a stop and planning ahead with the bus timetable.
